Why Solar Panels Work And What They Are Used For
Solar energy is undoubtedly the future. Many experts agree that there is no end in sight, at least not any time soon, for the sustainability of solar energy as a “green” energy source that won’t have a negative impact on our environment. Homeowner’s will consider this energy source seriously once they realize the cost of energy is reduced to zero after the initial installation and setup costs are incurred making it a viable source of heat and energy needs for an average household.
One way to look at this is that solar cells are contained in things called solar panels. These solar cells convert sunlight into electricity. Silicone material is used when creating solar cells, a material that will actually generate electricity when sunlight is applied. It takes a great number of solar cells to create a solar panel that can generate enough electricity that is meaningful. There are many kits available and instruction manuals to show people how to make their own solar panels so that they can have free electricity as well. Whether you ask a family member for help, or if you are good at soldering wires, this is something you should really try to do. You need to be able to hook up your solar panel, once it is finished, to a 12 V battery to store the energy. Probably the safest route to go is to use a lead acid battery which can easily store the charge. You can save hundreds of dollars by finding low-cost or free batteries in your area. This electricity must be converted into alternating current, which means you will need a power inverter to be able to use what you have stored. You need to get one of the following power inverters which includes modified and true sine wave devices. A true sine wave inverter is the only device that will give you the same AC electricity that comes out of your sockets. Only a true sine wave inverter, not a modified sine wave device, will convert the energy properly, but at a higher price.
If you are doing all of this yourself, it’s important to remember that a solar panel is essentially a set of solar cells grouped within a container, which you will need to create for your solar panels. Because wood is often easier to work with it is often the material of choice when building solar panels. You can use whatever wood type suits your fancy but we can recommend the usage of plywood. You’ll need wood inside the box that can hold the cells separate as well as a plexiglass covering for the box. This plexiglass covering serves two purposes, to protect the cells from the elements and also to allow sunlight to reach the cells too. You will also need a whole in the bottom of the box that will allow you to pull the wires out of the box. Now that you have the cells mounted it becomes necessary to connect each to the next using a bit of solder.
Solar panels give you a cheap power alternative that can serve you well in difficult economic times and ever rising utility costs. When you have solar panels, you can be reassured that you can power your home no matter how expensive utilities get, or even if services are disrupted.
