It is easy to build your own solar panel.
Solar energy is the future of energy as we know it. Solar energy is “green” meaning it leaves no negative impact on the environment not to mention it is likely to be around for a couple billion more years, or so the experts say. Additionally, the fact that it’s free, except for installation costs is another factor that will probably see many homeowners switching over to this form of energy source.
It is not that difficult to build your own solar panels. Of course, you do need to have some DIY skills, in that you need to be handy with a soldering iron and to be able to handle a saw, but other than that you can have a solar panel ready in no time at all. You can find solar cells online, and you will need wood to build a container and plexiglass for the cover. You’ll also need some caulk to attach the solar cells to the wooden container. For wiring made easy, try to find solar panels that already have the tabs on them. Make sure that you get solar panels with tabs, otherwise you will have to solder on tabs before you glue them in place.
This plexiglass cover is used to protect the cells from the elements as well as provide an inlet for ample sunlight for charging the cells. Glue is used to attach the cells to the box, and you will need to glue some wood strips inside the box. Only use a dot of caulk in the center of the cell because wood tends to expand and shrink with the weather. Using a single dot of caulk will allow the wood to shift without damaging your solar cells. Drill a hole in the box to feed your wires through, but make sure that you fill it with caulk when you are done to prevent moisture from getting to your solar cells. The plexiglass will have to be screwed on and mounted where you want it.
You may want to consider building and installing solar panels yourself; this is a fairly simple project, and the materials you’d need are quite easy to find. When building solar panels, you have to start with solar cells that are powerful enough for your needs. You’ll get more power from superior solar cells of course.
Eighty solar cells will get you about a hundred watts of electricity, though this number is only the average. Considering this you can now determine how large to make your solar panels and how many of them you need to power your home. Your entire house, if you have enough solar panels, can actually be powered if positioned and used in the proper way. The cost of heating your home will dramatically reduce, especially if you use your solar panels to power your heating system.
