It’s Not Difficult to Install Solar Panels
Solar energy is the future of energy as we know it. Where energy is concerned this “green energy” known as solar energy will likely outlive many other energy sources according to experts and it’s ability to avoid negative impact on the environment makes it that much more appealing to those of us who are environmentally conscious. Homeowner’s will consider this energy source seriously once they realize the cost of energy is reduced to zero after the initial installation and setup costs are incurred making it a viable source of heat and energy needs for an average household.
The solar energy panels are quite expensive initially, making this a major consideration for many, who may be skeptical of the savings over time. However, the good news is that it probably isn’t as expensive as you think, and you can actually build your own solar panels at home with some basic tools and parts that are all available via the internet. It may surprise you to find that many of the products you already have in your home can be used to create a simple solar panel design, for instance, you probably own a saw, drill, screwdriver and a wooden container of some sort. You may also need some silicone caulking and/or wood glue to assemble the wooden container and attach the solar cells.
If you want to install solar panels, you first have to calculate how many hours of sunlight you get on average. You have to choose between two kinds of solar panels: concentrating and non-concentrating solar collectors.
If you live in an area that gets quite a bit of sunlight throughout the year, you should get a concentrating solar collector, which can absorb a great deal of direct sunlight. Non-concentrating solar collectors, on the other hand, don’t require as much direct sunlight to absorb energy, so this is a better choice if you live in a less sunny region. If you have any doubt about which type would work best for you home, you should ask someone with experience in this field.
In terms of connections, if you are going to be connecting your solar panel to batteries, you might want to solder on a diode first. Using batteries will allow the solar cells to power the batteries and not the other way around. Having your batteries power your solar panels is a waste of energy. This step can be replaced by an alternative action consisting of the use of a control charger
Solar panels give you a cheap power alternative that can serve you well in difficult economic times and ever rising utility costs. Solar power can free you from depending on external conditions for your power needs, so that no matter what happens you’ll have a cost free way to get energy.
