What to Consider When Installing Solar Panels
With the state of the global economy, more and more people are turning to solar energy. Installing solar panels will be high, but the expense will quickly be off set by the amount you will be saving on your electric bill. The good news is that you can actually build your own solar panels for half the price. There are many important aspects that you will need to know about building your own solar panels.
Many people think that building your own solar panels at home is difficult. Do It Yourself skills are important if you are looking to build your own solar panel. To build your own solar panels you will need just a few basic items. You will need to use silicon caulk or wood glue of some type to attach the solar cells to the wooden container. If you can find solar cells that already have the tabs on them it will make wiring them up easier. If you can not find solar panels with tabs you will have to solder on the tabs before you glue them in place. Making a solar panel at home means that you will need solar cells because a panel is simply a collection of solar cells mounted in a container of some sort. Ebay is a good place to look for inexpensive cells against popular belief that they might be difficult to locate. However, don’t make the mistake of buying cells simply because they are cheap. It is imperative that you get a quality cell capable of maximizing your energy output for greater cost savings and energy production. Ultimately, you want to have a solar cell that is graded above “grade B” level without ever going below that standard. You can usually expect to generate 100 watts of power from every 100 solar cells and there are somewhere around 36 of them in one solar panel. As you can probably imagine, you need many of these cells, fortunately they are not pricey with a cost of only $2.00 each.
With the DIY method of solar panel creation your will need to create a box for the solar cells to rest in groups within when the desired outcome is a solar panel. Containers can be made out of a wide range of materials but the one that most people prefer is wood because it is easier to work with. For the back of the solar panel, plywood is a great choice although there are many other types of wood that are also acceptable. You will also need to put some wood inside the box to hold the cells and plexiglass to cover the box. That plexiglass cover will allow sunlight to be absorbed by the cells while remaining protected from the elements. You will also need a whole in the bottom of the box that will allow you to pull the wires out of the box. You can use solder to connect all of these cells together once you’ve mounted the solar cells.
It only takes some skills with tools and anyone can build a solar panel. Using your home built solar panels you could be powering your entire home with sunlight.
