Make Your Home Energy Efficient With Solar Panels
While we’re accustomed to many types of energy and technology, the only power source we couldn’t live without is the sun. We obviously depend on the sun to heat our planet, but there are actually many diverse ways this energy can be harnessed for our daily use. By installing solar panels in your home, you can have a very practical and inexpensive form of energy that has many uses.
The main reason statistically speaking, that more people have not made the switch yet is the high cost of the panels for solar energy. All you need is some basic tools, an imagination, and the internet to create your own less expensive version of solar panels to achieve the same effect. Perhaps one of the easiest solar panel designs to create is done with a wood container, a saw, a drill and a screwdriver. You may also need some silicone caulking and/or wood glue to assemble the wooden container and attach the solar cells. A solar panel is connected to batteries and most of them use the regular 12 volt batteries that are used in cars. Probably the safest route to go is to use a lead acid battery which can easily store the charge. Some institutions provide these batteries for free which is something you should look into if you are going to need a lot of them. Storing electricity is only part of the process; you must convert this electricity into AC to be used at home or in your garage. This means you should get a true sine wave or modified energy converter. A true sine wave inverter is the only device that will give you the same AC electricity that comes out of your sockets. Though more expensive, only the true sine wave device can create genuine AC electricity.
It is first necessary to realize that you will need a container in which to place your solar cells in order to create your own solar panels with the do it yourself method. Because wood is often easier to work with it is often the material of choice when building solar panels. You can use whatever type of wood you like but plywood is a great option for the back. You will also need to put some wood inside the box to hold the cells and plexiglass to cover the box. This way sunlight can reach the cells but they will be protected from the elements. You’ll want to remember to drill a whole for the wires to be pulled through as well. It is then necessary to connect the cells to one another via soldering.
As you can see, building a solar panel requires a bit of skill with tools but it is something anyone can do. So, you can soon have your own solar panel up and running and you might even end up powering your entire home with sunlight.
