What to Consider When Installing Solar Panels
Energy from the limitless resource of the sun is the primary focus of those that develop solar energy products. This energy supply is really limitless and will continue on for many lifetimes. One of the key reasons that solar panels are becoming more popular is that discounts make it more affordable for those that want to try it out. The big question is how do these solar panels actually operate? Well, read on to find out.
It is not that difficult to build your own solar panels. You should know how to use a soldering iron and handle a saw, if you can do this your solar panels will be ready in no time. To build your own solar panels you will need just a few basic items. You will need to use silicon caulk or wood glue of some type to attach the solar cells to the wooden container. When buying solar cells, try to find ones that already have tabs as it will make your life easier when you are doing the wiring. If you can not find solar panels with tabs you will have to solder on the tabs before you glue them in place.
Your simple box with a plexiglass front will allow sunlight in but will ensure the protection of the cells. You will glue your solar cells to the substrate, which are the strips of wood that you glue to the inside of your box. Only use a dot of caulk in the center of the cell because wood tends to expand and shrink with the weather. It’s imperative that you avoid damaging cells by using a single dot of this caulk to allow wood to shift. After the caulk has set, you will need to drill a hole in the box for the wires. Your solar panel is almost complete, just mount your plexiglass with screws.
Batteries will need to be connected and you may want to solder a diode first. Using batteries will allow the solar cells to power the batteries and not the other way around. Sometime during the night you could be wasting power. This step can be replaced by an alternative action consisting of the use of a control charger Although it does require a small amount of do it yourself know how, building your own solar panel really isn’t that hard after all. If you are serious about saving money, this is a project easy enough for even the novice to complete once the materials are rounded up and the patience to succeed is wrangled into production.
