The Upside of Using Solar Panels
Before electricity and central heating, the sun was the only source of energy for the earth and this was enough to allow human civilization to flourish. Solar energy is one of the most practical and economical forms of energy when we know how to take advantage of it. With easy to install solar panels, it’s possible to get heat and electricity you can use for all of your power requirements.
Mounting a solar panel on top of your home allows you to receive solar energy that can be used for many purposes, such as lighting and heating your home and giving you hot water. This can allow you to cut back on many of your bills such as electricity, gas or oil.
Depending on where you live, you can probably get a rebate or tax break when you install solar panels. Additionally, the increase in popularity of solar panels and advancements in technology have led to these systems becoming more affordable. If you do the job of installing solar panels yourself, then you’ll be able to benefit from energy independence without even having a high up front cost. You should consider having your solar cells available in order to create your homemade solar panel by putting them all together in the box or container of your choice to create your solar panel. Most people probably think it’s quite difficult to get hold of these but they can easily be found on eBay. But, you’ll want to avoid making the mistake of purchasing a cell just because you find them cheap. Your overall energy output depends heavily on the quality of your cells so be sure you are getting a good quality product. Ultimately, you want to have a solar cell that is graded above “grade B” level without ever going below that standard. You can expect about 100 solar cells to produce approximately 100 watts of power and the average solar panel has 36 of these. Each solar cell costs about $2 so you won’t go broke on them.
You will need a container to put the series of solar cells that will make up your solar panel into if you are taking the do it yourself route. Because it is easer to work with than many of the other options for container creation, wood is the most obvious and widely used material. You can use whatever type of wood you like but plywood is a great option for the back. It is recommended that you have some wood inside the box to separate the cells and hold them upright as well as a covering of plexiglass over the top too. That plexiglass cover will allow sunlight to be absorbed by the cells while remaining protected from the elements. You will also need a whole in the bottom of the box that will allow you to pull the wires out of the box. Now that you have the cells mounted it becomes necessary to connect each to the next using a bit of solder. You will indeed need to have some do it yourself know how to complete this task but it’s not nearly as difficult as most people thought. If you are serious about saving money, this is a project easy enough for even the novice to complete once the materials are rounded up and the patience to succeed is wrangled into production.
