Read this article to learn how to build your own solar panel.

No energy source created by humans can compare to the sun, which all life on this planet depends on for survival. When you know how to make use of solar energy, it has many practical applications in your home for daily life. You can easily meet most of your energy needs by installing a solar panel system in your home.

Solar panels are not that difficult to build at home. You should know how to use a soldering iron and handle a saw, if you can do this your solar panels will be ready in no time. You will need some equipment as well as solar panels, wood for the container and plexiglass for the cover. You will have to use caulk to attach your solar cells to your wooden container. If you can find solar cells that already have the tabs on them it will make wiring them up easier. Otherwise you will have to solder on tabs before you glue them in place.

Your simple box with a plexiglass front will allow sunlight in but will ensure the protection of the cells. Glue is used to attach the cells to the box, and you will need to glue some wood strips inside the box. Just a dot of silicone caulk in the center of the cell will keep the cells steady when the wood expands or shrinks. To prevent damage to your solar cell, use just a single dot of caulk which will allow the wood to shift. Drill a hole in the box to feed your wires through, but make sure that you fill it with caulk when you are done to prevent moisture from getting to your solar cells. The plexiglass will have to be screwed on and mounted where you want it.

The only connections that you will need will be for the battery. Charge your batteries using your solar panels. To avoid wasting energy make sure that your solar panels are sending power to your batteries and not the other way around. On the other hand, if you are using a charge controller then this step is not necessary.

Because solar panel systems are good for the environment and cost-effective they will most certainly be the future of energy production in the home. So the sooner you install them, the more money you’ll save.
