The Advantages of Using Solar Panel Systems

With the state of the global economy, more and more people are turning to solar energy. The expense of the solar panels would be offset by the savings on your electricity bill. It will cost you about half the price to build your own solar panels. There are many important aspects that you will need to know about building your own solar panels.

The solar panel itself is essentially a container that holds solar cells. The conversion of simple sunlight by the solar cells is how they create electricity. The rays of the sun which strike the solar cells, which are made of silicone, will generate electricity upon contact. People that purchase solar panels need to buy a lot of them because each cell only produces half of a volt of electricity. The thought of being able to eliminate your electric bill is what causes many people to make solar panels on their own with the hope of replacing all of their electrical needs. However, you do need to be handy with a soldering iron and a saw, so if you aren’t really into DIY, maybe you should ask a friend who is for help.

The plexiglass is for protection of your cells. You will glue your solar cells to the substrate, which are the strips of wood that you glue to the inside of your box. Only use a dot of caulk in the center of the cell because wood tends to expand and shrink with the weather. Using a single dot of caulk will allow the wood to shift without damaging your solar cells. Once the caulk has set, all you need to do is to drill a hole in the box for the wires but make sure to fill it with caulk after you have pushed the wires through to make sure that no moisture gets in. Decide where you want to put your plexiglass and then screw it all together.

It is first necessary to realize that you will need a container in which to place your solar cells in order to create your own solar panels with the do it yourself method. Because wood is often easier to work with it is often the material of choice when building solar panels. For the back of the solar panel, plywood is a great choice although there are many other types of wood that are also acceptable. You will then need to have some sort of stabilization inside the box (usually wood as well) and a top made of plexiglass to cover the container. That plexiglass cover will allow sunlight to be absorbed by the cells while remaining protected from the elements. Also, don’t forget to drill a hole in the box so you can pull the wires out. Once you mount the solar cells, you will need to do a bit of soldering to connect the cells to each other.

Solar panels are going to be the future of electricity production in the home because they’re not just cost-effective, they are also helpful to the environment. So by installing them sooner rather than later you can save more money on your electricity bills.
