Why Solar Panels Work And What They Are Used For
Solar energy is the future of energy as we know it. Solar energy is “green” meaning it leaves no negative impact on the environment not to mention it is likely to be around for a couple billion more years, or so the experts say. Additionally, the fact that it’s free, except for installation costs is another factor that will probably see many homeowners switching over to this form of energy source.
Solar cells are contained within boxes called solar panels. These solar cells convert sunlight into electricity. The rays of the sun which strike the solar cells, which are made of silicone, will generate electricity upon contact. It takes a great number of solar cells to create a solar panel that can generate enough electricity that is meaningful. You can actually make your own solar panel at home and it doesn’t really cost much, especially since then you will be able to enjoy the benefits of free electricity. However, you do need to be handy with a soldering iron and a saw, so if you aren’t really into DIY, maybe you should ask a friend who is for help. In order to create a solar panel at home you will need to have solar cells to mount into your wooden (or other) type of box in a collection format. Never let a naysayer tell you that these are hard to find, in today’s market just about anything you might need can be found on Ebay. Just because you find them cheap doesn’t always mean you should invest in them. You still need a quality cell group that’s not damaged in order to maximize your energy output. Therefore, you want to avoid any solar cells that are “grade B” or lower. You can expect about 100 solar cells to produce approximately 100 watts of power and the average solar panel has 36 of these. As you can probably imagine, you need many of these cells, fortunately they are not pricey with a cost of only $2.00 each.
Solder on your diode before you attach it to batteries. Charge your batteries using your solar panels. Lastly make sure that you are not wasting power. This step may not be necessary if you choose to use a charge controller.
As you can see, building a solar panel requires a bit of skill with tools but it is something anyone can do. So, you can soon have your own solar panel up and running and you might even end up powering your entire home with sunlight.
