To build your own solar panel read this article.
To cut cost, more and more people are turning to solar energy. Some people may be thinking that the cost of installing solar panels will be too high, but the expense will be quickly offset by savings made on the electricity bill. There is good news about building solar panels. This article has some of the most important aspects that you will need to know about building your own solar panels.
Most people worry about the initially high cost of the solar panels, which is the number one reason for not making the switch. But, there is good news, solar panels are probably not as expensive as you might think, in fact you can even make your own solar panels at home with a little help from the internet and some basic household tools. The simplest type of solar panel to create can be made using items you may already own such as a screwdriver, saw, drill and a wooden container. You may also need some silicone caulking and/or wood glue to assemble the wooden container and attach the solar cells. Making a solar panel at home means that you will need solar cells because a panel is simply a collection of solar cells mounted in a container of some sort. Many people think it’s too hard to find solar cells but the reality is you can easily find them on Ebay. But, you’ll want to avoid making the mistake of purchasing a cell just because you find them cheap. A good quality cell is necessary, you don’t want to make the mistake of getting a damaged cell group if you intend to have a higher energy production. Therefore, you want to avoid any solar cells that are “grade B” or lower. You will generate about 100 watts of power for every 100 solar cells you have in your solar panel which usually averages around 36 per panel. For an average cost of $2 each these cells can be called rather inexpensive compared to what you might have been thinking.
Since solar panels are essentially a set of solar cells within a container, you will need to make a container if you are taking the DIY route with your solar panels. Because wood is often easier to work with it is often the material of choice when building solar panels. Your local hardware and lumber store can direct you to many types of woods available although the final choice is yours You will then need to have some sort of stabilization inside the box (usually wood as well) and a top made of plexiglass to cover the container. That plexiglass cover will allow sunlight to be absorbed by the cells while remaining protected from the elements. You’ll want to remember to drill a whole for the wires to be pulled through as well. Use solder to connect the individual cells to one another after mounting is complete.
As you can see, building a solar panel requires a bit of skill with tools but it is something anyone can do. In no time at all you can have your own solar panel up and running.
