What to Consider When Installing Solar Panels
The sun is by far the most powerful source of energy for our planet; did you know that in only an hour the earth can receive enough energy from the sun to meet our power needs for a whole year? When you know how to make use of solar energy, it has many practical applications in your home for daily life. Modern solar panels enable you to create electricity in a simple and cost effective manner.
Building your own solar panels at home isn’t as difficult as many people think. You will have to have some “Do It Yourself” skills, to build your own solar panels. To build your own solar panels you will need just a few basic items. You’ll also need some caulk to attach the solar cells to the wooden container. If you can find solar cells that already have the tabs on them it will make wiring them up easier. Before you glue your solar panels in place you will have to solder tab on, if you are unable to find panels that have the tabs on them. A solar panel is connected to batteries and most of them use the regular 12 volt batteries that are used in cars. A plain old lead acid battery, which is very affordable, is what you’ll need. A large part of the cost of creating a solar solution for your electricity bill can be avoided by finding cheap or free batteries. So, these batteries store the power produced by solar panels, which can then be converted into AC power with the help of a power inverter so the electricity can be used by appliances. To do this, you need to purchase sine wave converters to get the job done. To get 60 MHz electricity, like out of your outlet, you must purchase or have a true sine wave inverter. Of course, these models are more expensive than their modified counterparts, are well worth the cost.
If you are doing all of this yourself, it’s important to remember that a solar panel is essentially a set of solar cells grouped within a container, which you will need to create for your solar panels. Wood is the most widely used material for these containers although there are a wide range of other materials that can also be used. Plywood is a great option to use for the back, but you can use any type of wood you have available. You will also need to put some wood inside the box to hold the cells and plexiglass to cover the box. This way sunlight can reach the cells but they will be protected from the elements. You’ll need to have a hole in the box that will make it possible for you to get the wires pulled outside the box too. Use solder to connect the individual cells to one another after mounting is complete.
Because solar panel systems are good for the environment and cost-effective they will most certainly be the future of energy production in the home. Therefore getting them installed sooner rather than later will enable you to save more money.
