Why Solar Panels Work And What They Are Used For
No energy source created by humans can compare to the sun, which all life on this planet depends on for survival. We obviously depend on the sun to heat our planet, but there are actually many diverse ways this energy can be harnessed for our daily use. Luckily, homeowners can take advantage of this energy with the help of solar panel systems that convert this energy into electricity.
One way to look at this is that solar cells are contained in things called solar panels. To get electricity, solar cells take sunlight and converts it into energy. When sunlight hits the silicone material in solar cells, an electrical process occurs. People that purchase solar panels need to buy a lot of them because each cell only produces half of a volt of electricity. There are many kits available and instruction manuals to show people how to make their own solar panels so that they can have free electricity as well. However, you do need to be handy with a soldering iron and a saw, so if you aren’t really into DIY, maybe you should ask a friend who is for help. If you have a 12 V battery, similar to those found in most vehicles, you are in luck as these are necessary to store the electricity generated by solar panels. Storing electricity is just like recharging your batteries, except you are using a 12 V battery with a solar panel. A large part of the cost of creating a solar solution for your electricity bill can be avoided by finding cheap or free batteries. This electricity must be converted into alternating current, which means you will need a power inverter to be able to use what you have stored. To do this, you need to purchase sine wave converters to get the job done. However, the best one is the one that creates the exact same type of electricity that comes out of the wall socket and that is the true sine wave. It is a little more expensive than the modified sine wave, but it’s worth paying a little extra in the long run.
You will need a container to put the series of solar cells that will make up your solar panel into if you are taking the do it yourself route. Because wood is often easier to work with it is often the material of choice when building solar panels. Plywood is a great option to use for the back, but you can use any type of wood you have available. It is recommended that you have some wood inside the box to separate the cells and hold them upright as well as a covering of plexiglass over the top too. This type of opaque covering protects the cells from damage due to the elements while still allowing necessary sunlight to reach each cell. Also, don’t forget to drill a hole in the box so you can pull the wires out. Once you mount the solar cells, you will need to do a bit of soldering to connect the cells to each other. You must place solar panels on top of your building or home so that they can receive sunlight and power your home at the same time. People use solar panels to heat their homes, especially if they live in a region that is particularly cold.
