Don’t Think Building Your Own Solar Panel Is Too Difficult For You
To cut cost, more and more people are turning to solar energy. Installing solar panels will be high, but the expense will quickly be off set by the amount you will be saving on your electric bill. It will cost you about half the price to build your own solar panels. While this article can’t possibly provide a comprehensive guide to building your own solar panel, we will look at some of the most important aspects.
The solar energy panels are quite expensive initially, making this a major consideration for many, who may be skeptical of the savings over time. But, there is good news, solar panels are probably not as expensive as you might think, in fact you can even make your own solar panels at home with a little help from the internet and some basic household tools. The simplest design for a solar panel is using a wood container, which means that you will need some simple woodworking tools like a saw, a drill and a screwdriver, which you probably already own. In order for you to attach the solar cells and put the box together it may be necessary to have some wood glue and silicone caulk on hand. You need to be able to hook up your solar panel, once it is finished, to a 12 V battery to store the energy. Probably the safest route to go is to use a lead acid battery which can easily store the charge. Some institutions provide these batteries for free which is something you should look into if you are going to need a lot of them. Storing electricity is only part of the process; you must convert this electricity into AC to be used at home or in your garage. To do this, you need to purchase sine wave converters to get the job done. To replicate the comforts of home, a true sine wave inverter is what you need to have actual alternating current. It is a little more expensive than the modified sine wave, but it’s worth paying a little extra in the long run.
You will need a container to put the series of solar cells that will make up your solar panel into if you are taking the do it yourself route. Wood is the most widely used material for these containers although there are a wide range of other materials that can also be used. For the back of the solar panel, plywood is a great choice although there are many other types of wood that are also acceptable. You will then need to have some sort of stabilization inside the box (usually wood as well) and a top made of plexiglass to cover the container. This type of opaque covering protects the cells from damage due to the elements while still allowing necessary sunlight to reach each cell. You will also need a whole in the bottom of the box that will allow you to pull the wires out of the box. Use solder to connect the individual cells to one another after mounting is complete.
Anyone can built a solar panel if you have some skills with tools. It will not take that long to get your solar panel up and running and powering you entire home with sunlight.
