To build your own solar panel read this article.
In an effort to cut energy costs, more and more people are using solar energy. Some people may be thinking that the cost of installing solar panels will be too high, but the expense will be quickly offset by savings made on the electricity bill. The good news is that you can actually build your own solar panels for half the price. Use this article as a guide to building your own solar panels.
A major worry for many households is the cost of the solar panels which can and probably has dissuaded many from making the switch. But, there is good news, solar panels are probably not as expensive as you might think, in fact you can even make your own solar panels at home with a little help from the internet and some basic household tools. Perhaps one of the easiest solar panel designs to create is done with a wood container, a saw, a drill and a screwdriver. You may want to consider having wood glue and silicone caulking handy in order to be able to assemble your wooden box and attach your solar panel cells to it.
The plexiglass is for protection of your cells. To attach the cells to the box, you will need to glue some strips of wood inside the box, also known as substrate, onto which you will glue the solar cells. You should only use a dot of caulk in the center of the cell. Solar cells can be damaged if the wood shifts, that is why you need to use a dot of caulk. After you have pushed the wires through the hole that you drilled make sure that you have filled it with caulk. Your solar panel is almost complete, just mount your plexiglass with screws.
Moving on, you will need to add to your solar panel and battery a little device called a charge controller for the following reasons. It is an essential component because it ensures that the voltage running into the battery is at the right level and it also ensures that the batteries don’t overcharge. A charge controller will also ensure that no power flows out of the batteries and back into the solar panel, which would be a waste. They also act like a resistor not allowing the batteries to be overcharged. While you will need to have some DIY skills to be able to make your own solar panels, it isn’t as difficult as many people think. If you are serious about saving money, this is a project easy enough for even the novice to complete once the materials are rounded up and the patience to succeed is wrangled into production.
