It’s Not Difficult to Install Solar Panels
Solar panels offer many benefits because they create clean energy by using the natural elements of our planet. In addition to this, they are a renewable energy source (which means it’s a resource that’ll never run out) which is an added bonus. You may have been wondering whether or not you should get solar panels installed, in which case I recommend you continue to read to learn more about this wonderful energy source.
If you want to see how easy it is to build your own solar panels at home, read this article. Of course, you do need to have some DIY skills, in that you need to be handy with a soldering iron and to be able to handle a saw, but other than that you can have a solar panel ready in no time at all. Some of the items that you will need to build your own solar panels are, solar cells, wood for the container and some plexiglass for the cover. You’ll also need some caulk to attach the solar cells to the wooden container. When buying solar cells, try to find ones that already have tabs as it will make your life easier when you are doing the wiring. Otherwise you will have to solder on tabs before you glue them in place. In order to create a solar panel at home you will need to have solar cells to mount into your wooden (or other) type of box in a collection format. Most people probably think it’s quite difficult to get hold of these but they can easily be found on eBay. However, don’t make the mistake of buying cells simply because they are cheap. You need good quality cells that aren’t damaged because the better they are the more energy they produce. If the solar cells you find on Ebay are rated at or below grade “B” avoid them. You can usually expect to generate 100 watts of power from every 100 solar cells and there are somewhere around 36 of them in one solar panel. Don’t worry, though, because a solar cell is only about $2 a piece, so they won’t cost you a fortune.
With the DIY method of solar panel creation your will need to create a box for the solar cells to rest in groups within when the desired outcome is a solar panel. Wood is the most widely used material for these containers although there are a wide range of other materials that can also be used. For the back of the solar panel, plywood is a great choice although there are many other types of wood that are also acceptable. You’ll need wood inside the box that can hold the cells separate as well as a plexiglass covering for the box. Since sunlight needs to get into each cell, plexiglass coverings are perfect ways to protect the cells from the elements and still allow full sun exposure to the cells. Also, don’t forget to drill a hole in the box so you can pull the wires out. Now that you have the cells mounted it becomes necessary to connect each to the next using a bit of solder.
Solar panels are going to be the future of electricity production in the home because they’re not just cost-effective, they are also helpful to the environment. So the sooner you install them, the more money you’ll save.
