How Solar Panels Operate To Help You
The sun is by far the most powerful source of energy for our planet; did you know that in only an hour the earth can receive enough energy from the sun to meet our power needs for a whole year? Solar energy is one of the most practical and economical forms of energy when we know how to take advantage of it. By installing solar panels in your home, you can have a very practical and inexpensive form of energy that has many uses.
If you want to see how easy it is to build your own solar panels at home, read this article. Of course, you do need to have some DIY skills, in that you need to be handy with a soldering iron and to be able to handle a saw, but other than that you can have a solar panel ready in no time at all. Some of the items that you will need to build your own solar panels are, solar cells, wood for the container and some plexiglass for the cover. You will need to use silicon caulk or wood glue of some type to attach the solar cells to the wooden container. Pre-tabbed solar cells will make the wiring easier. Before you glue your solar panels in place you will have to solder tab on, if you are unable to find panels that have the tabs on them.
The plexiglass is for protection of your cells. The substrate is what you will use to glue your solar cells to. Wood will expand and shrink with the changes in the weather. Solar cells can be damaged if the wood shifts, that is why you need to use a dot of caulk. Once the caulk has set, all you need to do is to drill a hole in the box for the wires but make sure to fill it with caulk after you have pushed the wires through to make sure that no moisture gets in. Lastly, screw your plexiglass on.
You will need a container to put the series of solar cells that will make up your solar panel into if you are taking the do it yourself route. Because wood is often easier to work with it is often the material of choice when building solar panels. Plywood is a great option to use for the back, but you can use any type of wood you have available. It is recommended that you have some wood inside the box to separate the cells and hold them upright as well as a covering of plexiglass over the top too. Since sunlight needs to get into each cell, plexiglass coverings are perfect ways to protect the cells from the elements and still allow full sun exposure to the cells. You’ll need to have a hole in the box that will make it possible for you to get the wires pulled outside the box too. Use solder to connect the individual cells to one another after mounting is complete.
With rising fuel costs and widespread economic problems, this is the perfect time to free yourself from he power companies by installing solar panels. When you have solar panels, you can be reassured that you can power your home no matter how expensive utilities get, or even if services are disrupted.
