It’s Not Difficult to Install Solar Panels
Undoubtedly, solar energy is the future. Solar energy is “green” meaning it leaves no negative impact on the environment not to mention it is likely to be around for a couple billion more years, or so the experts say. Homeowner’s will consider this energy source seriously once they realize the cost of energy is reduced to zero after the initial installation and setup costs are incurred making it a viable source of heat and energy needs for an average household.
Solar cells are contained within boxes called solar panels. To get electricity, solar cells take sunlight and converts it into energy. When sunlight hits the silicone material in solar cells, an electrical process occurs. It takes a great number of solar cells to create a solar panel that can generate enough electricity that is meaningful. There are many kits available and instruction manuals to show people how to make their own solar panels so that they can have free electricity as well. For those of you that are not very handy with tools, it is recommended that you obtain help from your family that can help you with sawing and soldering wires. In order to create a solar panel at home you will need to have solar cells to mount into your wooden (or other) type of box in a collection format. Many people think it’s too hard to find solar cells but the reality is you can easily find them on Ebay. Just because you find them cheap doesn’t always mean you should invest in them. It is imperative that you get a quality cell capable of maximizing your energy output for greater cost savings and energy production. Therefore, you want to avoid any solar cells that are “grade B” or lower. You can expect about 100 solar cells to produce approximately 100 watts of power and the average solar panel has 36 of these. Each solar cell costs about $2 so you won’t go broke on them.
It is first necessary to realize that you will need a container in which to place your solar cells in order to create your own solar panels with the do it yourself method. Because it is easer to work with than many of the other options for container creation, wood is the most obvious and widely used material. For the back of the solar panel, plywood is a great choice although there are many other types of wood that are also acceptable. You will also need to put some wood inside the box to hold the cells and plexiglass to cover the box. This plexiglass covering serves two purposes, to protect the cells from the elements and also to allow sunlight to reach the cells too. You’ll need to have a hole in the box that will make it possible for you to get the wires pulled outside the box too. It is then necessary to connect the cells to one another via soldering. While you will need to have some DIY skills to be able to make your own solar panels, it isn’t as difficult as many people think. This is a task that only requires patience, materials and perseverance to succeed in making your own solar panel to save energy.
