Even You Can Build Your Own Solar Panel With Ease
More and more people are turning to solar energy in an effort to cut costs, especially with the current state of the global economy. The expense of the solar panels would be offset by the savings on your electricity bill. It will cost you about half the price to build your own solar panels. There are many important aspects that you will need to know about building your own solar panels.
It is not that difficult to build your own solar panels. Do It Yourself skills are important if you are looking to build your own solar panel. Basically, you will need solar cells, which can be found online, wood to build the container, Plexiglas for the cover and some equipment. You will need to use silicon caulk or wood glue of some type to attach the solar cells to the wooden container. When buying solar cells, try to find ones that already have tabs as it will make your life easier when you are doing the wiring. If you can not find solar panels with tabs you will have to solder on the tabs before you glue them in place. You need to be able to hook up your solar panel, once it is finished, to a 12 V battery to store the energy. Storing electricity is just like recharging your batteries, except you are using a 12 V battery with a solar panel. Some institutions provide these batteries for free which is something you should look into if you are going to need a lot of them. So, these batteries store the power produced by solar panels, which can then be converted into AC power with the help of a power inverter so the electricity can be used by appliances. This means you should get a true sine wave or modified energy converter. A true sine wave inverter is the only device that will give you the same AC electricity that comes out of your sockets. Though more expensive, only the true sine wave device can create genuine AC electricity.
If you are doing all of this yourself, it’s important to remember that a solar panel is essentially a set of solar cells grouped within a container, which you will need to create for your solar panels. Solar panels containers can be made of any number of materials although the ease of workmanship makes wood the obvious choice for such a project. For the back of the solar panel, plywood is a great choice although there are many other types of wood that are also acceptable. It is recommended that you have some wood inside the box to separate the cells and hold them upright as well as a covering of plexiglass over the top too. That plexiglass cover will allow sunlight to be absorbed by the cells while remaining protected from the elements. You will also need a whole in the bottom of the box that will allow you to pull the wires out of the box. Now that you have the cells mounted it becomes necessary to connect each to the next using a bit of solder.
Anyone can built a solar panel if you have some skills with tools. So, you can soon have your own solar panel up and running and you might even end up powering your entire home with sunlight.
