Building your own solar panel can be easy.

The sun is by far the most powerful source of energy for our planet; did you know that in only an hour the earth can receive enough energy from the sun to meet our power needs for a whole year? Today, we’re learning more sophisticated ways to benefit from the sun; solar energy is often the cheapest way to provide energy for our homes. With easy to install solar panels, it’s possible to get heat and electricity you can use for all of your power requirements.

Building your own solar panels at home isn’t as difficult as many people think. If you know how to use a soldering iron and are handy with a saw you can build your own solar panels in no time. You can find solar cells online, and you will need wood to build a container and plexiglass for the cover. To attach your solar cells to the wooden container you can use caulk. Pre-tabbed solar cells will make the wiring easier. If you can not find solar panels with tabs you will have to solder on the tabs before you glue them in place.

The container for your solar panel is simply a box with a Plexiglas front, which will allow sunlight to flow in but will ensure that the cells are protected. To attach the cells to the box, you will need to glue some strips of wood inside the box, also known as substrate, onto which you will glue the solar cells. Only use a dot of caulk in the center of the cell because wood tends to expand and shrink with the weather. Solar cells can be damaged if the wood shifts, that is why you need to use a dot of caulk. After you have pushed the wires through the hole that you drilled make sure that you have filled it with caulk. Decide where you want to put your plexiglass and then screw it all together.

Moving on, you will need to add to your solar panel and battery a little device called a charge controller for the following reasons. These devices will prevent overcharging the batteries and ensuring the voltage levels are correct. It also controls the direction of the flow of electricity from the solar panel to the battery and only in that direction. They also prevent overcharging of your batteries which can happen if they are not used.

Undoubtedly, solar panel systems are the future for energy production for the home due to their cost-effectiveness over the long term as well as the fact that they are good for the environment. So, you can save more money by installing them sooner rather than later.
