It’s Not Difficult to Install Solar Panels

More and more people are turning to solar energy in an effort to cut costs, especially with the current state of the global economy. Some people may be thinking that the cost of installing solar panels will be too high, but the expense will be quickly offset by savings made on the electricity bill. It will cost you about half the price to build your own solar panels. There are many important aspects that you will need to know about building your own solar panels.

Solar cells are contained within boxes called solar panels. The energy that solar cells produce from sunlight is electricity. The rays of the sun which strike the solar cells, which are made of silicone, will generate electricity upon contact. Only a half of a volt of power per cell is generated from sunlight necessitating the use of many solar panels to provide electricity. The thought of being able to eliminate your electric bill is what causes many people to make solar panels on their own with the hope of replacing all of their electrical needs. However, you do need to be handy with a soldering iron and a saw, so if you aren’t really into DIY, maybe you should ask a friend who is for help. If you have a 12 V battery, similar to those found in most vehicles, you are in luck as these are necessary to store the electricity generated by solar panels. Storing electricity is just like recharging your batteries, except you are using a 12 V battery with a solar panel. Some institutions provide these batteries for free which is something you should look into if you are going to need a lot of them. This electricity needs to be converted, so you will need to have a power inverter to convert the energy to be used around your house. There are two types of power inverters available, namely true sine wave and modified sine wave. However, the best one is the one that creates the exact same type of electricity that comes out of the wall socket and that is the true sine wave. Only a true sine wave inverter, not a modified sine wave device, will convert the energy properly, but at a higher price.

The only connections that you will need will be for the battery. Power will flow from the solar cells to the batteries. To avoid wasting energy make sure that your solar panels are sending power to your batteries and not the other way around. However, for those who choose to use a charge controller this step is not necessary.

The tools will require some skill, but it is something that anyone can do. It will not take that long to get your solar panel up and running and powering you entire home with sunlight.
