Make Your Home Energy Efficient With Solar Panels
Due to its inexpensive cost of development, and free energy from the sun, solar power is looking like a great energy alternative. Solar energy, after all, is going to last for billions of years. Low cost energy can definitely originate from solar panels, especially if you can work with companies that offer rebates and rewards prior to installation. But how exactly do solar panels work? Well, read on to find out.
The main reason statistically speaking, that more people have not made the switch yet is the high cost of the panels for solar energy. But, there is good news, solar panels are probably not as expensive as you might think, in fact you can even make your own solar panels at home with a little help from the internet and some basic household tools. Perhaps one of the easiest solar panel designs to create is done with a wood container, a saw, a drill and a screwdriver. You may want to consider having wood glue and silicone caulking handy in order to be able to assemble your wooden box and attach your solar panel cells to it. You need to be able to hook up your solar panel, once it is finished, to a 12 V battery to store the energy. No need to be fancy; just find an ordinary lead acid battery for this particular job. Some institutions provide these batteries for free which is something you should look into if you are going to need a lot of them. Storing electricity is only part of the process; you must convert this electricity into AC to be used at home or in your garage. There are two types of power inverters available, namely true sine wave and modified sine wave. A true sine wave inverter is the only device that will give you the same AC electricity that comes out of your sockets. Only a true sine wave inverter, not a modified sine wave device, will convert the energy properly, but at a higher price.
Another aspect of solar panels are the charge controllers that are in between the panel itself and the storage battery. To make sure your batteries do not explode, or receive the wrong level of voltage while charging, you need to have these devices hooked up. To make sure that the electricity does not flow backwards, these units are also necessary. Likewise, if the batteries are fully charged, it will stop allowing power to flow into them to avoid damage.
It only takes some skills with tools and anyone can build a solar panel. With your solar panel up and running you could be powering your own home with sunlight.
