The Upside of Using Solar Panels
Many people are switching to solar energy because it is less expensive to develop and its energy source comes from the sun. The sun is estimated by scientists last for billions of years, clearly showing this energy source is trustworthy. Clean energy, as solar energy is referred to, is relatively cheap to invest into because of the rebates and incentives that are offered. You should be wondering by now how these solar panels work? The following will reveal this mystery to you.
It is not that difficult to build your own solar panels. Do It Yourself skills are important if you are looking to build your own solar panel. You can find solar cells online, and you will need wood to build a container and plexiglass for the cover. Caulk should be used to attach the solar cells to the wooden container. For wiring made easy, try to find solar panels that already have the tabs on them. If you can not find solar panels with tabs you will have to solder on the tabs before you glue them in place.
The plexiglass is for protection of your cells. Glue is used to attach the cells to the box, and you will need to glue some wood strips inside the box. Just a dot of silicone caulk in the center of the cell will keep the cells steady when the wood expands or shrinks. Using a single dot of caulk will allow the wood to shift without damaging your solar cells. After the caulk has set, you will need to drill a hole in the box for the wires. Decide where you want to put your plexiglass and then screw it all together.
You will need a container to put the series of solar cells that will make up your solar panel into if you are taking the do it yourself route. Containers can be made out of a wide range of materials but the one that most people prefer is wood because it is easier to work with. You can use whatever type of wood you like but plywood is a great option for the back. You will then need to have some sort of stabilization inside the box (usually wood as well) and a top made of plexiglass to cover the container. Since sunlight needs to get into each cell, plexiglass coverings are perfect ways to protect the cells from the elements and still allow full sun exposure to the cells. You will also need a whole in the bottom of the box that will allow you to pull the wires out of the box. Use solder to connect the individual cells to one another after mounting is complete. You will indeed need to have some do it yourself know how to complete this task but it’s not nearly as difficult as most people thought. This is a task that only requires patience, materials and perseverance to succeed in making your own solar panel to save energy.
