Read this article to learn how to build your own solar panel.

The sun is by far the most powerful source of energy for our planet; did you know that in only an hour the earth can receive enough energy from the sun to meet our power needs for a whole year? When you know how to make use of solar energy, it has many practical applications in your home for daily life. You can easily meet most of your energy needs by installing a solar panel system in your home.

Most people worry about the initially high cost of the solar panels, which is the number one reason for not making the switch. All you need is some basic tools, an imagination, and the internet to create your own less expensive version of solar panels to achieve the same effect. The simplest type of solar panel to create can be made using items you may already own such as a screwdriver, saw, drill and a wooden container. You may also need some silicone caulking and/or wood glue to assemble the wooden container and attach the solar cells. All you need to do this really is a 12 V battery for storage and a solar panel to create electricity. Storing electricity is just like recharging your batteries, except you are using a 12 V battery with a solar panel. Many places will offer great deals on these types of batteries along with coupons at your local store. Once the battery has stored enough electricity, you can use the energy by hooking up a power inverter to convert it to AC. If you already have a modified sine wave or true sine wave power inverter, you can use this energy. A true sine wave inverter is the only device that will give you the same AC electricity that comes out of your sockets. It is a little more expensive than the modified sine wave, but it’s worth paying a little extra in the long run.

You will need a container to put the series of solar cells that will make up your solar panel into if you are taking the do it yourself route. Containers can be made out of a wide range of materials but the one that most people prefer is wood because it is easier to work with. You can use whatever wood type suits your fancy but we can recommend the usage of plywood. You will also need to put some wood inside the box to hold the cells and plexiglass to cover the box. This plexiglass covering serves two purposes, to protect the cells from the elements and also to allow sunlight to reach the cells too. Also, don’t forget to drill a hole in the box so you can pull the wires out. Now that you have the cells mounted it becomes necessary to connect each to the next using a bit of solder. While you will need to have some DIY skills to be able to make your own solar panels, it isn’t as difficult as many people think. If you are serious about saving money, this is a project easy enough for even the novice to complete once the materials are rounded up and the patience to succeed is wrangled into production.
