Install Solar Panels to Cut Costs
Solar panels provide us with green energy because they use natural elements of the earth, which is why there are many benefits. The fact that they are a renewable energy source, meaning that it isn’t a resource that will run out, is an added bonus. If you’ve contemplated installing solar panels but you’re still undecided it would be a good idea to read on to find out more about this great source of energy.
If you want to see how easy it is to build your own solar panels at home, read this article. You will have to have some “Do It Yourself” skills, to build your own solar panels. Basically, you will need solar cells, which can be found online, wood to build the container, Plexiglas for the cover and some equipment. Caulk should be used to attach the solar cells to the wooden container. When buying solar cells, try to find ones that already have tabs as it will make your life easier when you are doing the wiring. Before you glue your solar panels in place you will have to solder tab on, if you are unable to find panels that have the tabs on them. In order to create a solar panel at home you will need to have solar cells to mount into your wooden (or other) type of box in a collection format. Many people think it’s too hard to find solar cells but the reality is you can easily find them on Ebay. You still need to be aware of what you are buying and don’t buy them just because you find them for less money. Your overall energy output depends heavily on the quality of your cells so be sure you are getting a good quality product. Ultimately, you want to have a solar cell that is graded above “grade B” level without ever going below that standard. You can usually expect to generate 100 watts of power from every 100 solar cells and there are somewhere around 36 of them in one solar panel. Don’t worry, though, because a solar cell is only about $2 a piece, so they won’t cost you a fortune.
Since solar panels are essentially a set of solar cells within a container, you will need to make a container if you are taking the DIY route with your solar panels. Wood is the most widely used material for these containers although there are a wide range of other materials that can also be used. You can use whatever type of wood you like but plywood is a great option for the back. You will then need to have some sort of stabilization inside the box (usually wood as well) and a top made of plexiglass to cover the container. Since sunlight needs to get into each cell, plexiglass coverings are perfect ways to protect the cells from the elements and still allow full sun exposure to the cells. Also, don’t forget to drill a hole in the box so you can pull the wires out. Use solder to connect the individual cells to one another after mounting is complete.
Undoubtedly, solar panel systems are the future for energy production for the home due to their cost-effectiveness over the long term as well as the fact that they are good for the environment. So the sooner you install them, the more money you’ll save.
