The Advantages of Using Solar Panel Systems

The sun is amazing, especially considering that the energy it puts out is so powerful that the amount our planet absorbs in one hour is enough to cover the energy needs of our planet for one year. We obviously depend on the sun to heat our planet, but there are actually many diverse ways this energy can be harnessed for our daily use. With easy to install solar panels, it’s possible to get heat and electricity you can use for all of your power requirements.

First of all, solar panels are receptacles for solar cells that you will use. To get electricity, solar cells take sunlight and converts it into energy. When sunlight hits the silicone material in solar cells, an electrical process occurs. Only a half of a volt of power per cell is generated from sunlight necessitating the use of many solar panels to provide electricity. There are many kits available and instruction manuals to show people how to make their own solar panels so that they can have free electricity as well. For those of you that are not very handy with tools, it is recommended that you obtain help from your family that can help you with sawing and soldering wires. A solar panel is connected to batteries and most of them use the regular 12 volt batteries that are used in cars. Storing electricity is just like recharging your batteries, except you are using a 12 V battery with a solar panel. A large part of the cost of creating a solar solution for your electricity bill can be avoided by finding cheap or free batteries. So, these batteries store the power produced by solar panels, which can then be converted into AC power with the help of a power inverter so the electricity can be used by appliances. There are two types of power inverters available, namely true sine wave and modified sine wave. To get 60 MHz electricity, like out of your outlet, you must purchase or have a true sine wave inverter. Only a true sine wave inverter, not a modified sine wave device, will convert the energy properly, but at a higher price.

Since solar panels are essentially a set of solar cells within a container, you will need to make a container if you are taking the DIY route with your solar panels. Wood is the most widely used material for these containers although there are a wide range of other materials that can also be used. Plywood is a great option to use for the back, but you can use any type of wood you have available. You will then need to have some sort of stabilization inside the box (usually wood as well) and a top made of plexiglass to cover the container. This plexiglass covering serves two purposes, to protect the cells from the elements and also to allow sunlight to reach the cells too. You will also need a whole in the bottom of the box that will allow you to pull the wires out of the box. It is then necessary to connect the cells to one another via soldering.

All it takes to build your own solar panel is a little skill with the tools. With your solar panel up and running you could be powering your own home with sunlight.
