Read this article to learn how to build your own solar panel.
In an effort to cut energy costs, more and more people are using solar energy. Some people may be thinking that the cost of installing solar panels will be too high, but the expense will be quickly offset by savings made on the electricity bill. Building your own solar panels for half the price is good news. Use this article as a guide to building your own solar panels.
If you want to see how easy it is to build your own solar panels at home, read this article. Of course, you do need to have some DIY skills, in that you need to be handy with a soldering iron and to be able to handle a saw, but other than that you can have a solar panel ready in no time at all. Basically, you will need solar cells, which can be found online, wood to build the container, Plexiglas for the cover and some equipment. To attach your solar cells to the wooden container you can use caulk. Pre-tabbed solar cells will make the wiring easier. If you can not find solar panels with tabs you will have to solder on the tabs before you glue them in place.
Your climate and how much sunlight you receive are important factors to consider before getting solar panels. You have to choose between two kinds of solar panels: concentrating and non-concentrating solar collectors.
If you receive lots of sunlight most of the year, you should get a solar panel that can efficiently absorb direct sunlight, which would be a concentrating solar collector. If you don’t get that much sun, however, you can still benefit from solar power with a non-concentrating solar collector, which can operate from reflected as well as direct sunlight. If you have any doubt about which type would work best for you home, you should ask someone with experience in this field.
With the DIY method of solar panel creation your will need to create a box for the solar cells to rest in groups within when the desired outcome is a solar panel. Because it is easer to work with than many of the other options for container creation, wood is the most obvious and widely used material. You can use whatever type of wood you like but plywood is a great option for the back. Cover the container with plexiglass, you may also want to put a bit of wood inside the box to hold the cells in place. This plexiglass covering serves two purposes, to protect the cells from the elements and also to allow sunlight to reach the cells too. You’ll need to have a hole in the box that will make it possible for you to get the wires pulled outside the box too. Now that you have the cells mounted it becomes necessary to connect each to the next using a bit of solder.
It only takes some skills with tools and anyone can build a solar panel. With your solar panel up and running you could be powering your own home with sunlight.
