To build your own solar panel read this article.

The future of solar energy is certain to be long and adventurous. Many experts agree that there is no end in sight, at least not any time soon, for the sustainability of solar energy as a “green” energy source that won’t have a negative impact on our environment. Additionally, the fact that it’s free, except for installation costs is another factor that will probably see many homeowners switching over to this form of energy source.

The main reason statistically speaking, that more people have not made the switch yet is the high cost of the panels for solar energy. But, there is good news, solar panels are probably not as expensive as you might think, in fact you can even make your own solar panels at home with a little help from the internet and some basic household tools. It may surprise you to find that many of the products you already have in your home can be used to create a simple solar panel design, for instance, you probably own a saw, drill, screwdriver and a wooden container of some sort. You may want to consider having wood glue and silicone caulking handy in order to be able to assemble your wooden box and attach your solar panel cells to it.

The plexiglass is for protection of your cells. The substrate is what you will use to glue your solar cells to. Only use a dot of caulk in the center of the cell because wood tends to expand and shrink with the weather. To avoid damaging your solar cell consider using a single dot of silicone caulk to keep the wood free of encumbrances. Drill a hole in the box to feed your wires through, but make sure that you fill it with caulk when you are done to prevent moisture from getting to your solar cells. Lastly, screw your plexiglass on.

Many people are worried about the cost of installing a solar panel system which is why they haven’t yet taken any action. They fear that the price of solar panels will cost more than they’ll ever save on their electricity bill. But the good news is you can cut the costs by simply making your own solar panels. In fact, you can cut the cost down to about half and you can find most of what you need online, including solar cells which can be found on sites such as eBay. It’s worth doing a bit of research to find whether or not where you live has any rebates or incentives for installing a solar panel system. This is because the government wants as many people to switch over to clean energy sources and to further encourage this they offer builders excellent tax breaks if the homes they put up have solar panel systems.

Solar panels give you a cheap power alternative that can serve you well in difficult economic times and ever rising utility costs. If things do take a turn for the worst, having a renewable energy source that is free and allows you to be independent from the public grid might just prove invaluable.
