How to Build Your Own Solar Panel
Solar panels provide us with green energy because they use natural elements of the earth, which is why there are many benefits. An added bonus is the fact that they’re a renewable energy source, so it’s not a resource that will run out. So, if you have been wondering whether or not installing solar panels is worth it, read on to learn more about this amazing energy source.
If you’re using solar panels for your power you won’t need to rely on the public electric grid, which is probably the biggest benefit of using a solar panel system. You will at the very least be able to save on your electricity bills, and you may even be able to drastically reduce them. In addition to this you may also be able to get paid for any extra electricity you produce, as the government purchases it in some areas. But even if this doesn’t happen where you live, you’ll still make big savings from installing solar panels. You need to be able to hook up your solar panel, once it is finished, to a 12 V battery to store the energy. Sealed lead acid batteries seem to be the most popular type because they are inexpensive, safe and robust. A large part of the cost of creating a solar solution for your electricity bill can be avoided by finding cheap or free batteries. Storing electricity is only part of the process; you must convert this electricity into AC to be used at home or in your garage. There are two types of power inverters available, namely true sine wave and modified sine wave. To replicate the comforts of home, a true sine wave inverter is what you need to have actual alternating current. Though more expensive, only the true sine wave device can create genuine AC electricity.
You will need a container to put the series of solar cells that will make up your solar panel into if you are taking the do it yourself route. Because wood is often easier to work with it is often the material of choice when building solar panels. You can use whatever wood type suits your fancy but we can recommend the usage of plywood. Cover the container with plexiglass, you may also want to put a bit of wood inside the box to hold the cells in place. That plexiglass cover will allow sunlight to be absorbed by the cells while remaining protected from the elements. You’ll want to remember to drill a whole for the wires to be pulled through as well. Use solder to connect the individual cells to one another after mounting is complete.
Anyone can built a solar panel if you have some skills with tools. In no time at all you can have your own solar panel up and running.
