Install Solar Panels to Cut Costs
Solar energy is the future of energy as we know it. Solar energy is a source of energy that will be around for billions of years according to experts because it’s clean, causing no negative impact on the environment. Another factor to consider is the fact that, aside from initial setup and installation, solar energy is free which will hold some appeal to homeowners.
To explain this, let’s think of solar panels as a box that holds solar cells together. These solar cells convert sunlight into electricity. The process itself involves photons hitting electrons in the silicone material on the solar cells, which become electricity. It takes a great number of solar cells to create a solar panel that can generate enough electricity that is meaningful. There are many kits available and instruction manuals to show people how to make their own solar panels so that they can have free electricity as well. However, you do need to be handy with a soldering iron and a saw, so if you aren’t really into DIY, maybe you should ask a friend who is for help.
This plexiglass cover is used to protect the cells from the elements as well as provide an inlet for ample sunlight for charging the cells. Glue is used to attach the cells to the box, and you will need to glue some wood strips inside the box. Only use a dot of caulk in the center of the cell because wood tends to expand and shrink with the weather. Using a single dot of caulk will allow the wood to shift without damaging your solar cells. Once the caulk has set, all you need to do is to drill a hole in the box for the wires but make sure to fill it with caulk after you have pushed the wires through to make sure that no moisture gets in. Lastly, screw your plexiglass on.
If you are doing all of this yourself, it’s important to remember that a solar panel is essentially a set of solar cells grouped within a container, which you will need to create for your solar panels. Because it is easer to work with than many of the other options for container creation, wood is the most obvious and widely used material. For the back of the solar panel, plywood is a great choice although there are many other types of wood that are also acceptable. You will then need to have some sort of stabilization inside the box (usually wood as well) and a top made of plexiglass to cover the container. Since sunlight needs to get into each cell, plexiglass coverings are perfect ways to protect the cells from the elements and still allow full sun exposure to the cells. You’ll need to have a hole in the box that will make it possible for you to get the wires pulled outside the box too. Use solder to connect the individual cells to one another after mounting is complete.
Without a doubt, solar panels are definitely the future for producing energy in the home, not just because they’re cost-effective but they’re also good for the environment. So, the sooner you get them installed, the more money you can save on electricity.
