It’s Not Difficult to Install Solar Panels
While we’re accustomed to many types of energy and technology, the only power source we couldn’t live without is the sun. While this form of energy arrives as heat and light, that doesn’t mean it can’t be converted into a usable form of energy. Modern solar panels enable you to create electricity in a simple and cost effective manner.
Most people worry about the initially high cost of the solar panels, which is the number one reason for not making the switch. But, there is good news, solar panels are probably not as expensive as you might think, in fact you can even make your own solar panels at home with a little help from the internet and some basic household tools. It may surprise you to find that many of the products you already have in your home can be used to create a simple solar panel design, for instance, you probably own a saw, drill, screwdriver and a wooden container of some sort. Don’t overlook the likelihood of needing wood glue or other adhesives such as silicone caulk available to aide in box assembly and solar panel attachment.
The container for your solar panel is simply a box with a Plexiglas front, which will allow sunlight to flow in but will ensure that the cells are protected. You will glue your solar cells to the substrate, which are the strips of wood that you glue to the inside of your box. Just a dot of silicone caulk in the center of the cell will keep the cells steady when the wood expands or shrinks. To avoid damaging your solar cell consider using a single dot of silicone caulk to keep the wood free of encumbrances. Once the caulk has set, all you need to do is to drill a hole in the box for the wires but make sure to fill it with caulk after you have pushed the wires through to make sure that no moisture gets in. Decide where you want to put your plexiglass and then screw it all together.
Everything required to build solar panels can be found on the internet or at a home improvement store, so you may want to think about doing it yourself. If you want your solar panels to give you the maximum efficiency, you have to start out with good quality solar cells. The more powerful they are, the more energy you’ll get out of them.
For every 100 watts of electricity you require, you’ll need about 80 solar cells. This gives you a rough idea of how powerful your solar panels need to be and how many of them you’ll need.
The tools will require some skill, but it is something that anyone can do. With your solar panel up and running you could be powering your own home with sunlight.
