To build your own solar panel read this article.
Solar energy is the future of energy as we know it. Many experts agree that there is no end in sight, at least not any time soon, for the sustainability of solar energy as a “green” energy source that won’t have a negative impact on our environment. Another factor to consider is the fact that, aside from initial setup and installation, solar energy is free which will hold some appeal to homeowners.
If you place a solar panel on your home’s roof, you instantly have a powerful source of energy that can provide heat and light for everything in your home. Your utility bills can be reduced or even eliminated by doing this.
Most areas now offer tax incentives to help make it more affordable to install solar panels in your home. Fortunately, as they get more popular and the technology advances, it’s getting cheaper all the time to install solar panels. Once you have solar panels, you’ll never be dependent on centralized power companies again; what’s even better is that you can install them yourself without too much difficulty.
Before you install any solar panels, you should do some research, as the kind you get should be based on how much sunlight your area gets. Whether you get a concentrating solar collector or a non-concentrating collector will depend on your needs.
If you live in an area that gets quite a bit of sunlight throughout the year, you should get a concentrating solar collector, which can absorb a great deal of direct sunlight. If you don’t get that much sun, however, you can still benefit from solar power with a non-concentrating solar collector, which can operate from reflected as well as direct sunlight. You can always consult with an expert if you don’t know which type of solar panel would be appropriate for you.
You will need a container to put the series of solar cells that will make up your solar panel into if you are taking the do it yourself route. Containers can be made out of a wide range of materials but the one that most people prefer is wood because it is easier to work with. For the back of the solar panel, plywood is a great choice although there are many other types of wood that are also acceptable. You’ll need wood inside the box that can hold the cells separate as well as a plexiglass covering for the box. This plexiglass covering serves two purposes, to protect the cells from the elements and also to allow sunlight to reach the cells too. You will also need a whole in the bottom of the box that will allow you to pull the wires out of the box. You can use solder to connect all of these cells together once you’ve mounted the solar cells. Although it does require a small amount of do it yourself know how, building your own solar panel really isn’t that hard after all. It’s really no harder than knowing what materials you’ll need, obtaining them before you begin and having the patience to complete the task.
