How Solar Panels Operate To Help You
In an effort to cut energy costs, more and more people are using solar energy. The expense of the solar panels would be offset by the savings on your electricity bill. Building your own solar panels for half the price is good news. Use this article as a guide to building your own solar panels.
All you have to do is mount a solar panel on the roof of your home to enjoy the benefits of free energy, for powering electrical appliances, lighting your home and even heating water. This can allow you to cut back on many of your bills such as electricity, gas or oil.
While there is a cost involved to actually install solar panels, this can be offset by rebates or tax breaks that are available in many places. As this technology becomes more sophisticated, and more people are taking advantage of it, the costs are steadily declining. One of the best things about solar panels is that you can make them even more economical by installing them yourself, which will then free you from being dependent on the power companies.
The container for your solar panel is simply a box with a Plexiglas front, which will allow sunlight to flow in but will ensure that the cells are protected. Glue is used to attach the cells to the box, and you will need to glue some wood strips inside the box. You should only use a dot of caulk in the center of the cell. It’s imperative that you avoid damaging cells by using a single dot of this caulk to allow wood to shift. Drill a hole in the box to feed your wires through, but make sure that you fill it with caulk when you are done to prevent moisture from getting to your solar cells. Then, screw your Plexiglas on and mount it where you want.
You will need a container to put the series of solar cells that will make up your solar panel into if you are taking the do it yourself route. Solar panels containers can be made of any number of materials although the ease of workmanship makes wood the obvious choice for such a project. Plywood is a great option to use for the back, but you can use any type of wood you have available. It is recommended that you have some wood inside the box to separate the cells and hold them upright as well as a covering of plexiglass over the top too. This type of opaque covering protects the cells from damage due to the elements while still allowing necessary sunlight to reach each cell. You will also need a whole in the bottom of the box that will allow you to pull the wires out of the box. Once you mount the solar cells, you will need to do a bit of soldering to connect the cells to each other. While you will need to have some DIY skills to be able to make your own solar panels, it isn’t as difficult as many people think. All you really need is patience, materials and desire to tackle the task.
