Building Your Own Solar Panel Is Easier Than You Think
The future of solar energy is certain to be long and adventurous. Where energy is concerned this “green energy” known as solar energy will likely outlive many other energy sources according to experts and it’s ability to avoid negative impact on the environment makes it that much more appealing to those of us who are environmentally conscious. Homeowner’s will consider this energy source seriously once they realize the cost of energy is reduced to zero after the initial installation and setup costs are incurred making it a viable source of heat and energy needs for an average household.
It is not that difficult to build your own solar panels. Do It Yourself skills are important if you are looking to build your own solar panel. To build your own solar panels you will need just a few basic items. To attach your solar cells to the wooden container you can use caulk. When buying solar cells, try to find ones that already have tabs as it will make your life easier when you are doing the wiring. Otherwise you will have to solder on tabs before you glue them in place. A solar panel is connected to batteries and most of them use the regular 12 volt batteries that are used in cars. Probably the safest route to go is to use a lead acid battery which can easily store the charge. Many places will offer great deals on these types of batteries along with coupons at your local store. This electricity must be converted into alternating current, which means you will need a power inverter to be able to use what you have stored. If you already have a modified sine wave or true sine wave power inverter, you can use this energy. However, the best one is the one that creates the exact same type of electricity that comes out of the wall socket and that is the true sine wave. Of course, these models are more expensive than their modified counterparts, are well worth the cost.
The only connections that you will need will be for the battery. Using batteries will allow the solar cells to power the batteries and not the other way around. Lastly make sure that you are not wasting power. On the other hand, if you are using a charge controller then this step is not necessary. Although it does require a small amount of do it yourself know how, building your own solar panel really isn’t that hard after all. All you really need is patience, materials and desire to tackle the task.
